Shops, kiosks and other commercial structures
Telliskivi Loomelinnak, 2023
“Shops, kiosks and other commercial structures” is a visual study documenting small business establishments that are slowly fading away. The primary concept for this project is to showcase the unique style and characteristics of these structures - each a representation of their owners' vision.
The ever evolving landscape of the economy has created an environment where big corporations own the market, leaving ordinary mom-and-pop shops having to get by what’s left of these big-box stores. These massive companies have extremely optimized workflows, thus creating a very cost-effective business while generating remarkable profit. Yet their appearance can be repetitive, impersonal and cautious.
This project carefully examines some of these independent businesses run by ambitious and hardworking people. The lack of a marketing budget or a corporate visual handbook does not discourage these owners, who prefer creating their own idea of what their business should visually represent. As a result we have something that is truly genuine, special and one-of-a-kind.
